GPSR Compliance
Version: 10.1
Effective date: 18 August 2026
Previous website version: 9.0
This page provides general product-safety information for products supplied by Redkey USB Ltd and information relevant to Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR).
The GPSR applies in the European Union from 13 December 2024. The official text is available at https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2023/988/oj.
This page is not a Declaration of Conformity, test certificate or substitute for product-specific technical documentation. Product-specific instructions, warnings, markings and information shown on the product, its packaging, an accompanying document or its online offer take priority over general guidance on this page.
1. Manufacturer
Redkey USB Ltd
Company number: 11257207 (England and Wales)
Registered office: 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom
Email: contact@redkeyusb.com
Contact page: https://redkeyusb.com/pages/contact
For a product marketed under the Redkey name or trade mark, Redkey USB Ltd is treated as the manufacturer where applicable law assigns that role to the person marketing the product under its name or trade mark. This statement does not imply that Redkey USB Ltd physically made every component or third-party accessory.
The registered office is not a customer return address unless we have expressly approved a return there. Contact us before sending a product.
2. EU responsible person
For products for which it is named on the product, packaging, parcel, accompanying information or online offer, the EU responsible person is:
Easy Access System Europe OÜ
Registration number: 16879218
Mustamäe tee 50
10621 Tallinn
Estonia
Email: gpsr.requests@easproject.com
Telephone: +372 56 968 939
The responsible-person designation and its scope are product-specific. The details shown with the particular product or online offer should be checked before purchase.
Customers should normally contact Redkey USB Ltd for orders, returns, warranty or general support. The EU responsible-person contact is principally for product-safety and market-surveillance matters within its mandate.
3. Products covered
This information may apply, as relevant, to:
- genuine working Redkey data-erasure USB devices, including devices sold individually, in multipacks or in kits;
- the permanently non-functional Redkey Physical Fit Model;
- USB cables and similar low-voltage accessories;
- lanyards, keyrings and other non-electronic accessories;
- “Data Wiped” stickers and other labels; and
- product packaging supplied by Redkey USB Ltd.
A kit or multipack must be assessed by reference to each component it contains. A warning or conformity document for one component or hardware revision should not be assumed to cover another.
4. Product-specific requirements and certification
Products are assessed against the safety and conformity requirements that apply to their type, intended and reasonably foreseeable use, market and date of placement on the market.
Depending on the product, relevant requirements may include the GPSR and rules concerning electromagnetic compatibility, restriction of hazardous substances, chemicals, waste electrical and electronic equipment, batteries and packaging. Not every law, marking, standard or document applies to every category.
A CE mark is used only where legislation requiring CE marking applies to the particular product and the necessary conformity assessment and supporting documentation are in place. The Low Voltage Directive does not apply merely because a product uses a USB connector; it applies only to equipment within the voltage range defined by that Directive. We do not make a blanket Low Voltage Directive, CE, EMC, RoHS, REACH, WEEE or battery-compliance claim for every Redkey product.
Data-erasure standards, methods and voluntary erasure certifications concern erasure performance or assurance. They are separate from product-safety and product-conformity requirements. This page does not claim that a current voluntary data-erasure certification applies to a product.
Model-specific conformity information may be requested from us. A Declaration of Conformity, test report or certificate is available only where it is required or appropriate for, and has been verified against, the exact product, model or hardware revision concerned.
5. Product identification and online offers
Where required, the product, packaging or accompanying information identifies the product by type, model, batch, serial number or another identifier and gives the manufacturer and EU responsible-person details that apply to it.
Where Article 19 of the GPSR applies, an online or other distance-sale offer directed to EU consumers must clearly and visibly provide:
- the manufacturer’s name and postal and electronic address;
- the EU responsible person’s name and postal and electronic address where the manufacturer is outside the EU;
- a product picture, product type and other identifier; and
- warnings or safety information required for that product in a language consumers in the destination Member State can readily understand.
This general page does not replace that product-specific information. If the information for a particular product is unclear or appears inconsistent, contact us before ordering or using it.
6. Working Redkey data-erasure devices
6.1 Intended use
A working Redkey data-erasure device is intended to start a compatible computer in the Redkey environment and permanently erase one or more whole disks selected by a person who owns the equipment or is authorised to erase it. Erasure includes the operating system on a selected disk.
Redkey erases each selected disk in full and does not erase individual files. Advanced Mode provides more precise control for experienced users but does not remove the need to verify every selected whole disk.
6.2 Essential warnings
- Back up anything that must be kept before starting. A successful erasure is irreversible and Redkey USB Ltd cannot restore the erased data.
- Use Redkey only on a computer or disk that you own or are authorised to erase.
- Check the identity, connection and capacity of every selected disk. Where practical, disconnect disks that must not be erased.
- Follow the current on-screen instructions, product documentation and compatibility guidance.
- Use a stable power supply. Do not interrupt power or disconnect a selected target disk while an erasure is in progress.
- Do not force a connector, use a visibly damaged device, expose it to liquids or excessive heat, or disassemble or modify it.
- Stop using the Redkey if it becomes unusually hot, emits smoke or an unusual smell, has a bent or loose connector, develops a sharp edge or otherwise appears unsafe.
Operational warnings about irreversible erasure are included because they are essential to correct use. Detailed compatibility, erase-method and report information is provided on the relevant product and support pages.
7. Redkey Physical Fit Model
The Redkey Physical Fit Model is permanently non-functional. It is supplied only to check physical dimensions, USB-port fit, clearance, casing, caps, packaging or procurement requirements.
Its USB connector is present only for a physical fit or clearance check. It has no usable electronic function and cannot be activated, licensed, upgraded, used to erase a disk or used to create an erasure report.
Do not represent it as a working Redkey. Do not force it into a connector. Stop using it for fit checks if the connector or casing is bent, loose, sharp or damaged. Keep it away from young children.
8. Cables and electronic accessories
- Use an accessory only with a compatible connector and within the rating and purpose stated on its product page, label or packaging.
- Inspect it before use. Do not use a cable with exposed conductors, damaged insulation, a loose connector or signs of overheating.
- Do not force a connector, crush or sharply bend a cable, expose it to liquids or excessive heat, or modify it.
- Disconnect and stop using an accessory if it becomes unusually hot, damaged or unreliable.
- Unless specifically stated otherwise, Redkey accessories are not toys and are not intended for unsupervised use by children.
A connector’s physical presence does not guarantee every possible charging, data-transfer or device function. Check the exact product description before use.
9. Lanyards, keyrings, stickers and other non-electronic items
- Lanyards and small accessories can present entanglement, strangulation or choking risks. Keep them away from young children and use adult supervision where appropriate.
- Do not attach a lanyard or keyring where it could become caught in moving machinery or create a trip, snagging or entanglement hazard.
- Do not use a damaged accessory with sharp, loose or broken parts.
- Use stickers only for their stated labelling purpose. Do not place them over vents, safety markings, moving parts, food-contact surfaces or hot surfaces.
- A “Data Wiped” sticker does not erase a disk or independently prove that an erasure succeeded. Apply it only after completing and verifying the appropriate erasure process and records.
10. Reporting a safety concern or accident
If a product appears unsafe, causes injury, overheats, emits smoke or has a serious physical defect:
- stop using it immediately and disconnect it only if it is safe to do so;
- keep the product and packaging for investigation where safe and practical;
- contact contact@redkeyusb.com or use https://redkeyusb.com/pages/contact; and
- provide the product name, serial, model or batch information where available, the order number, photographs and a clear description of what happened.
For an urgent danger, fire or medical emergency, contact the appropriate emergency service or local product-safety authority first.
We maintain a public electronic contact channel for safety complaints and accident reports. Tell us if you need a reasonable accessible format or communication adjustment.
Reporting a safety concern does not affect rights under our Warranty, Returns and Refunds Policy or mandatory consumer law.
11. Investigation, corrective action and recalls
We assess product-safety complaints and accident information and cooperate with relevant market-surveillance authorities and responsible economic operators.
Where a product is or may be dangerous, we will take the corrective action and give the consumer and authority notifications required by applicable law. This can include correcting instructions or an online offer, stopping supply, warning customers, withdrawing a product, notifying through the EU Safety Business Gateway or arranging a recall.
If a safety warning or recall affects an identifiable order, we will use available order or registration details to contact affected customers directly where required. Where not all affected customers can be identified, we will use appropriate public channels. Safety and recall information will be made accessible and available in the required languages.
A GPSR recall remedy will be effective, timely and free of charge. Where the GPSR requires it, consumers will be offered a choice between at least two of repair, replacement and an adequate refund, unless the exception for an impossible or disproportionate remedy applies. The customer will not be charged the cost of returning a recalled product.
Follow the instructions in a safety warning or recall notice. Stop using an affected product when instructed, even if it appears to work normally.
12. Traceability, complaints and documentation
For products within scope, we maintain proportionate product identification, supply-chain, risk-assessment, instruction, complaint, corrective-action and conformity records required by applicable law.
GPSR technical documentation is kept up to date and retained for the period required by law, including ten years after the relevant product is placed on the market where Article 9 applies. Required supply-chain traceability information is also retained for the applicable period.
We investigate safety complaints and accident information concerning a product alleged to be dangerous and keep an internal register of safety complaints, recalls and corrective measures as required. Personal data in that safety register is limited to what is necessary and is not kept longer than permitted by law. Our Privacy and Data Protection Policy explains how we process personal information.
Not every non-electronic accessory carries an individual serial number. Product identification may instead appear as a model, type, batch or other identifier on the product, packaging or accompanying information.
13. Disposal and packaging
Do not place an electronic product carrying the crossed-out wheeled-bin symbol in unsorted household waste. Use an appropriate electrical-waste collection or recycling service in accordance with local rules.
Follow product-specific battery instructions where a product contains a battery. Do not assume that every Redkey product contains one.
Recycle packaging and non-electronic materials where local facilities accept them. Packaging supplied in the EU is assessed under the packaging rules applicable to its type and date of placement on the market, including Regulation (EU) 2025/40 and relevant transitional provisions.
14. Changes and contact
We may update this page when our product range, safety information, EU responsible person or applicable requirements change. The current version and effective date are published at https://redkeyusb.com/pages/gpsr-compliance.
